• Overview

Arthroscopy serves as a means to both diagnose and treat joint issues. Employing a slender tube coupled with a fiber-optic video camera, a surgeon enters the joint through a small incision akin to a buttonhole. The internal view is then relayed onto a high-definition monitor. This technique enables joint examination without the need for substantial incisions. In some instances, joint damage can even be rectified during the procedure, using slim surgical instruments introduced through additional minor incisions. Arthroscopy finds utility in diagnosing and managing a range of joint conditions, particularly those affecting the knee, shoulder, elbow, ankle, hip, and wrist. It proves valuable when traditional methods like X-rays and imaging leave diagnostic uncertainties. The technique addresses conditions like loose bone fragments, damaged cartilage, inflamed joint linings, torn ligaments, and joint scarring.
